| Evaluate "Aging in Place" (CMS-funded) |
|
The Sinclair School of Nursing has undertaken a major evaluation to promote independence and dignity of frail older adults. With funding from the Health Care Financing Administration (Dr. Karen Marek, Principal Investigator), the demonstration project will evaluate the effect on outcomes of care, cost, and quality for older adults who have the opportunity to "age in place" and receive the care and services they need to remain in the housing of their choice. The research component of this evaluation will be guided by members of the MU MDS and Quality Research Team. We are pilot testing a community version of the MDS-HC and integrating OASIS and some items from the nursing home MDS so that comparisons with nursing home residents can be made. This pilot testing is underway collaboratively with Department of Health and Senior Services, Home and Community Based Services. We will be able to share results that can be applied to developing an instrument for use by Home and Community Based Services staff that can be used to not only assess clients and help develop a plan of care but also evaluate outcomes across the continuum of care.
