| Conducted cost analysis and examined the relationship of cost of care to quality |
|
With an ever increasing aging population and increased costs associated with long-term care, interest in determining the major contributors to those costs increases. We examined the relationship between cost and quality of care in nursing homes using quality indicator measures of resident outcomes. Other factors, such as facility size and ownership, were also studied. We discovered that while each individual quality measure makes only small contributions to costs, when considered across the facility, quality could have a substantial favorable financial impact on the operations of the home.
