We convened a group of industry representatives to guide the on-going state needs for staff education about the accurate application and use of MDS. The group has representatives from all professional organizations that do continuing education for nursing home and residential care facility staff. For example, the Missouri Hospital Association, the Missouri Health Care Association, the Missouri Association for Homes and Services for the Aging, and the Missouri League for Nursing all participate in meetings planned several times each year. Workshops are planned and conducted by several of the groups cooperatively throughout the state to see that staff have access to on-going educational needs as they use MDS in care planning and the quality improvement process. In addition, the committee is attempting to address the complex problem of staffing in long-term care.
