This application integrates the specialized talents and perspectives of an interdisciplinary team of scientists from the healthcare, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, and health informatics fields who previously used existing clinical assessment measures of fall risk as a starting place from which to develop new technology-based measures in collaboration with leading scientists in engineering and health informatics. We are ready to validate the technology we developed by integrating this expert healthcare knowledge with a sensing system that can revolutionize fall detection and measurement of fall risk. In contrast to current labor-intensive research methods (periodic clinician observations/interviews), the new technology-based solutions we will validate and refine could be available to health care providers and consumers quickly, readily, and continuously.
